Convincing Win for the Chooks
[ July 1, 2007 ]
By John Preston

Eleven tries, 8 conversions and a field goal sealed an emphatic 72 points to nil victory against a lackluster Wests outfit on Saturday.

Given the Mudchooks' tenuous hold on second place on the ladder through for and against averages, this result can only increase their chances of fulfilling their semi-final aspirations.

In a dominant performance all over the paddock, the Bungendore team showed some impressive form and were certainly quicker off the defensive line than in previous matches.

Powerhouse loose forward Sam Brown has admonished the troops with a "toughen up for the business end of the season" speech and this has been reiterated by coach Pete Payten and his call for a commitment from the boys to attend training both days during the week.

Bungendore have a real chance of making the finals this year and, on improving form, could well go all the way. However, a great deal more commitment on the training paddock will be needed before this result is assured.

In Saturday's encounter, the honours were shared equally amongst both backs and forwards although a particularly strong showing from the forwards helped set the platform for the dynamic backline attacks. Outside centre Rod Clarke and loose forward Sam Brown both got doubles which indicates the equal balance between the hard working pack and the fleet-footed backs.

Three points for the day went to Luke Swift for an excellent attacking game with 2 points going to Kim Veness for an impressive showing from the second row and one point to Dan Beer - sensational at fullback. Chick's pick went to Adam Stevens.

This week's after game activities are at the bowling club where there's a fund raiser for the injured players' fund. We've had more than our fair share of serious injuries this season but this week's game and the after match function should be an amusing way to counter these negatives.

Come up and watch the lads take on competition leaders Taralga, then join them all at the Bowlo later on for the fund raiser - bring a mate and bring your wallet. Kick off is at 2:30pm.

Come in and support the lads at the Aranda oval at 2.30pm on Saturday.
