Mudchooks 8 - 5 Over Bushpigs In Tight Tussle

The Mudchooks caused a stir last Saturday, taking on and beating Jindabyne in their snowy mountains haven, a venue which has proven a test for Bungendore in the past. The game started bleakly with wind and sleet, but finished with the sun shining and a magnificent 8 - 5 win over home side.

Due to the slippery conditions, the first half was rife with handling errors on both sides, which caused each side to self-destruct every point scoring attempt and a nil all score-line at the forty minute mark.

The Jindabyne side tried aggressively to keep the Mudchooks pinned in their own 22, although some strong offensive work from both backs and forwards saw the tables turned with Rod Clarke going over for the first try in the match early in the second half. The try was not converted, but Pete Henderson was able to make it up with a penalty conversion, that turned out to be the difference in this game.

Jindabyne did hit back shortly after with a try in the corner. It was not converted and not enough to discourage the Mudchook pack. The forwards kept the ball in tight and worked well together to keep the Bushpigs away from the Mudchook line, along with some great individual efforts from Pete Henderson, Adam Towney and Dan Beer who earn themselves 3, 2 and 1 Players' Player Points respectively.

A competition bye sees the Mudchooks taking a rest this weekend, and we'll be back in Bungendore for a familiar clash against the Crookwell Dogs on Saturday 21 July at 2,30pm. See you all there!
