A Good Day Out For The Chooks
[ July 23, 2007 ]

At the business end of the season, a 41 to 23, bonus point victory to the Mudchooks against the Crookwell Dogs was just what the doctor ordered.
In a fast paced game, the Mudchooks concentration on fitness on the training paddock was a major telling factor with the Dogs running out of pant in the latter stages of both halves.
As usual Bungendore allowed Crookwell to dictate play to start with and the dogs kicked a penalty goal to open the scoring. However, in an impressive performance from break away, Brett Newman replied, with the first of his two five pointers. Brodie McLeod, who had a successful day with the boot - tallying 9 points for the match, converted the try.
Playing in the unfamiliar role of half-back, Matthew Burton provided good service at the base of the ruck as well as solid defence throughout this tough encounter. Mark Chapman was impressive all around the paddock and was rewarded with two top class tries. Indeed, a Crookwell official approached the Bungendore bench during the match to complement Chappo's performance.
Fly half, Peter Henderson, had a solid game and added some real flair to the Mudchook backline with some decisive runs and accurate kicking. Henderson also bagged a try, following one such run that made mincemeat of the Crookwell defence.
Daniel Beers also crossed the line in an impressive and largely faultless display at full back.
A special mention must go to Brett Newman for sealing the Dogs' fate with a second try beneath the posts which he also converted.
Crookwell had moments of good football and were rewarded with three tries, another penalty goal and one conversion.
Man of the match, with three players' player points, was Mark Chapman with two points going to Brett Newman and one to Daniel Beer. Chicks' pick went to determined and tough second-rower John Turner who's solid attacking runs and bone jarring defence certainly impressed throughout the game.
Next week sees the return of the Uni North Owls to the Coop of Pain in Bungendore. The Mudchooks need to beat the students, preferably with a bonus point, in order to secure a home semi-final. A good showing of sponsors and supporters at the game will help them on their way. Come up and cheer them on.
The players and management of the Bungendore Rugby Football club would like to extend their deepest sympathy and regrets to the Bayley family on the untimely passing of Max Bayley. Our thoughts are with Luke and family at this difficult time.
