MUDCHOOKS vs. BUSHPIGS IN GRAND FINAL
"Clash of Country Critters"
[ Monday, 18 August 2008 ]

The stage has been set for what is likely to be the toughest Grand Final clash in years, with the Bungendore Mudchooks to host this year's Monaro Second Division Grand Final against the Jindabyne Bushpigs. This "Clash of Country Critters" is expected to draw crowds of rugby enthusiasts from across the ACT and southern NSW.

In the forth year since the Club's inception, the Mudchooks have reached the Grand Final for the third time. With a home ground advantage this time round the Chooks, no longer satisfied with being bridesmaids, are now looking to secure their first competition premiership.

Jindabyne may have had a slow start to the season, although they have been a force to be reckoned with throughout the latter stages of the competition and finals series. In what is their 25th anniversary year, the Bushpigs will certainly be out to draw blood in this contest.

In recent weeks and as part of the finals preparation, the Bungendore side has had the opportunity to draw on the experience and knowledge of ex-Wallabies, Owen Finnegan and Richard Harry. "The assistance provided by both Owen and Richard has been invaluable in fine tuning the Chooks line-out and scrum tactics within the finals series" Mudchooks second rower, Pete Payten, has said.

Richard Harry has been a long time supporter of the Mudchooks and once again has thrown his support behind the Bungendore team. At training last Saturday, Richard commented that, "The Mudchook team has the individual players with the combined potential to beat any team in the competition, the test will be for these individuals to combine as a team on the day, to realise that potential".

This Saturday (23 August) will see the Mudchooks "Clash of Country Critters" at the Mick Sherd Oval in Bungendore at 3.00pm. The main event will follow a competition round match by the local senior rugby league side, the Bungendore Tigers.
