Tough Start For Mudchooks First Match
[ Saturday, 2 May 2009 ]

The 2009 rugby season has finally begun, with the Mudchooks travelling to Boorowa for their first competition match of the season. Despite the fine weather, our fair-weather friends found the first season challenge tough to take on from the get-go.

The Boorowa Goldies caught our boys napping in the first ten minutes, quickly surmounting two well executed and converted tries. The Mudchook fullback, Dan Beer valiantly hit back shortly after, although this was a vain struggle which continued throughout the match.

Shortly after half time, the Goldies were once again attacking the Mudchook line, when a stray pass was superbly incepted by veteran winger Dancin' Dave McDonald, who showed a most unprecedented pace to out-run his opponents for an eighty metres try.

Sloppy tackling and a lack of commitment at the breakdown were the Mudchooks eventual downfall, which lead to the eventual 33-12 final score.

In what turned out to be the Chook's season wake up call, this week's player points went to, Tymlock 3 Points - Dan Beer; Bungendore Rural CRT 2 Points - Will Schmidt; The Royal Hotel 1 Point - Brodie McLeod; and Botham Fencing Contractor's "Chooks Pick" - Jason Broderick.

The Mudchooks have an early bye this weekend, but wish to invite all our supporters and sponsors to come and spur on your Chooks for what is sure to be another magnificent season in its next match in Jindabyne on 16 May 2009, followed by the first home match of the season on 23 May.
