Mudchooks Defeated By Blustering Bushpigs
[ Saturday, 16 May 2009 ]
It has been a tough start to the season for the Mudchooks, with two distant away games and a bye, the road has certainly been rocky so far. The weekend's game against the Jindabyne Bushpigs was no exception.
The Bushpigs took the early points, although their heavy set forward pack started to wane with fatigue late in the first half. Mudchook winger Dancin' Dave saw the opportunities open up with the struggling defence and went over for his second try in as many matches.
Down by two tries to one in the second half, Luke Payten used his enviable skill, backed by a brutal onslaught from his forward pack, to dart through a hole for a magnificent try, bringing the score-line to 12-10.
The Chooks' eventual downfall was a wasted penalty goal opportunity in front of the post with only a few minutes to go. Although defiant, the Mudchooks were unable to retrieve another scoring opportunity and the 12-10 score-line remained.
This week's player points went to, Tymlock 3 Points - Eddie Mitford-Burgess; Bungendore Rural CRT 2 Points - Jason Broderick; The Royal Hotel 1 Point - Andrew Turner; and Botham Fencing Contractor's "Chicks Pick" - Adam Gowen.
This Saturday (23 May) is the Mudchooks' first home game of the season against the formidable Taralga Tigers. The game kicks off at 2.30pm with pre-match entertainment by the Australian Rugby Choir, followed by an after-match function at the Royal Hotel. With two games down and two losses, it's important to get as many fans there to support the Mudchooks and enjoy a great afternoon of country rugby.
