Mudchooks Maintain Home Ground Advantage
[ Saturday, 20 June 2009 ]

Last Saturday was again another home game for the Mudchooks and another superb winter's day for rugby. The Chooks kicked off for an early start of 12 o'clock (to cater for the Tigers) against the always cunning Uni-Norths Owls.

It was a slow start to the game with the home team running into the wind and making the match more difficult for themselves through silly handling errors and donating inane penalties to the visitors. This lack of control soon turned around and leading by example, Luke Payten took the defence head-on and was awarded first points.

At half time the Chooks led 12-5, although with the wind now at their backs the home side could only increase their lead. Despite front row injuries for the Mudchooks that resulted in the need for uncontested scrums, the tiring Owls were soon on the back foot through some relentless forward pack determination and allowed three more scoring opportunities for Bungendore.

The Mudchooks finished the match with a 31-5 bonus point win that elevates the Chooks to third spot on the competition ladder. With home games scheduled against the other competition front runners, the potential is great for another grand ending to the year.

This week's player points went to, Tymlock 3 Points - Luke Payten; Bungendore Rural CRT 2 Points - Rod Clarke; The Royal Hotel 1 Point - (Shared) Jason Broderick and Eddie Zarb; and Botham Fencing Contractor's "Chicks Pick" - Peter Payten.

The Chooks have a bye this coming weekend, but return for a home match against competition leaders, Boorowa Goldies on 4 July. Make sure the home ground advantage is once again preserved with as much support as Bungendore can muster.
