Mudchooks Defeat Down To The Wire
[ Saturday, 4 July 2009 ]

In another early starting match, the Mudchooks took to the field at midday in an attempt to maintain this season's home field winning streak, this time against the competition leaders, Boorowa Gold. Following the first round loss to Boorowa, the Chooks were keen to turn things around and once and for all put a stop to Boorowa's domination of this year's competition.

The first half forward pack scrummaging was solid enough to allow the Bungendore backs to capitalise on the free flowing game and through some quick hands to winger, Dave McDonald, score first points with a superb try in the north east corner of the park.

An eventual try by Boorowa was shortly followed by another exhibition of solid Mudchook team-work to allow Woody Fraser to easily break through the Boorowa defence for the second try and a 12-5 lead at half time.

Shaken but not stirred, the Goldies fought their way back into the match and now trailing only 19-17 to the home side late in the second half, Boorowa mounted their final offensive and score another unconverted try to now lead 22-19. The Mudchooks tried desperately to hit back, although time was against their side. The score-line remained unchanged at the final whistle, in what was an incredibly evenly matched and impressive game.

Player points this week went to, Tymlock 3 Points - Eddie Mitford-Burgess; Bungendore Rural CRT 2 Points - Haywood (Woody) Fraser; The Royal Hotel 1 Point - Rod Clarke; and Botham Fencing Contractor's "Chicks Pick" - Andrew Turner.

The Mudchooks have the round bye this weekend, but return for their next home match on 18 July against the Jindabyne Bushpigs. All our supporters and sponsors are invited to come and spur on your Chooks for what is sure to be another magnificent match.
