Bungendore Blitz Bushpigs
[ Saturday, 18 July 2009 ]

Last year’s grand final loss to the Jindabyne Bushpigs in Bungendore was definitely a hard pill to swallow. This week the Chooks were keen to set the record straight and confidently display their intentions for this year’s competition.

Dominance was taken early by the Mudchooks, although it was again technical errors that shut down early scoring opportunities only metres from the line and giving the visitors the ability to scramble from disappointment. The reprieve was short lived, for continuous pressure had the Chooks well in control and persistently breaking the Bushpig advantage line. Luke Payten was again the first to find the right hole and put five points on the board.

Jindabyne attempted valiantly to contest the match, although it was the Mudchook’s day with two more tries to Luke Payten and two to fullback Dan Beer, the Bushpigs were never in contention.

The Chooks finished the match with a magnificent 36-0 victory, although will need to work on the technical and pressured errors that were evident to ensure themselves another grand final berth in 2009.

This week’s player points went to, Tymlock 3 Points – Eddie Mitford-Burgess; Bungendore Rural CRT 2 Points – Luke Payten; The Royal Hotel 1 Point – Will Schmit; and Botham Fencing Contractor’s “Chicks Pick” – John Turner.

The Mudchooks travel to Taralga this weekend for what is sure to be another great country rugby spectacle. All supporters and sponsors are invited to come and spur on your Chooks for what is sure to be another magnificent match.

Don’t forget that the next home match is on 1 August against Crookwell, followed by the Annual Injured Players Fundraising Night that is sure to be packed full of games and prizes.
