Chooks Hunt Down Tigers In Taralga
[ Saturday, 25 July 2009 ]

The Mudchook’s trip to Taralga is usually one of the most anticipated in the Bungendore Rugby calendar, with previous trips full of emotional highs and lows. With this in mind the Chooks took this round’s trek to the Taralga Tiger’s hunting ground very seriously intend.

From the kick-off the Mudchook forward pack was relentless in its attack of the ball. Eddie Zarb, Adam Stevens and Woody Fraser were all lethal in attack against their comparably diminutive counterparts in the Taralga defence. This dominance allowed the backs to use the width of the park and permit Dan Beer into the corner for his first of two tries for the day.

With a 12-0 score-line at half-time and scrum-half Will Schmidt sent from the field with 20 minutes to go for a dangerous tackle, the match was still up for grabs. It was the tenacity of the Mudchook side that was the eventual difference, by surmounting a further three tries and keeping the home side scoreless.

The final score was 27 for the Chooks, and for the second week in a row, zero points to the opposition. This is an surely an encouraging result with finals series looming.

This week’s player points went to, Tymlock 3 Points – Dan Beer; Bungendore Rural CRT 2 Points – Adam Stevens; The Royal Hotel 1 Point – Jason Broderick; and Botham Fencing Contractor’s “Chicks Pick” – Luke Payten.

The Mudchooks return for their next home match this Saturday (1 August) against the competition second placed, Crookwell Dogs, which will be followed by the Annual Injured Players Fundraising Night at the Royal Hotel that is sure to be packed full of games and prizes.
