Chooks Swoop on Eagles
[ Saturday, 20 March 2010 ]
The Mudchooks won their second pre-season game 17 – 5 against Gungahlin Eagles 3rd grade on 20 March. Playing in hot (29 degrees) conditions at Daramalan College, both teams struggled to cope with the heat, but the Mudchooks were fitter and better organised than the Eagles and won the game convincingly three tries to one.
Coach Shane Botham was pleased with the improvement that the Mudchooks have made since their last game. “Our defence is getting tighter and we are putting some good attacking moves together and this showed in the final score,” he said, “but we continue to let the opposition off the hook by giving away too many off-side penalties at the breakdown.” This is a facet of the game that the Mudchooks will need to improve on and get correct in the remaining pre-season games before the competition proper starts with the first game against Harden Rugby Club on 8 May.
Also on Saturday 8th May Wallabies coach Robbie Deans has generously offered to visit Bungendore to speak to the Mudchooks players and supporters. The Mudchooks Social Committee is busy organising our first social event for 2010, "Brunch with Robbie" where we will be having a brunch at the Bungendore Showground Luncheon pavilion commencing at 11.30am. The cost will be $30 per head and tickets will be available at Bungendore Cellars or by contacting Glynn Templeton on 02 62380590. We hope that we will be seeing all local rugby fans at the event and afterwards at the game at Mick Sherd Oval, Bungendore.
The next pre-season game is the annual Braidwood v Bungendore contest for the Palerang Shield. This game will be played at Captains Flat on Saturday 27 March with a 3:00pm kick-off. The day promises to be another huge event for the Flat and both teams are hoping that a good crowd of rugby supporters from all three Palerang townships attend.
