Mudchooks outgun ADFA
[ Saturday, 10 April 2010 ]
The Bungendore Mudchooks enjoyed another good pre-season win against the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) second grade team last Saturday at Goulburn.
With 21 Mudchook players turning up and perfect playing conditions, the Mudchooks romped in winners scoring five tries to nil during the 40 minute game. The ADFA team consisted of the usual group of very fit and keen young defence force cadets, but their team work and organisation on the field was not up to the standards shown by the Mudchooks. In fact, it was the Mudchooks improved backing up and disciplined communication that really stood out during the game.
It was great to see founding captain-coach and Mudchook life member, Peter Payten, put in a cameo appearance during his weekend return to Bungendore and, true to form, he played a blinder scoring two tries. Tries also went to Peter Ballard, Peter Sturgiss and Dan Cottrell and Aaron Williams kicked well to get three conversions over, narrowly missing another two difficult kicks from the side line. Coach Shane Botham was very happy with the team's performance, and is very happy with the way the players' teamwork is developing. He awarded Club Captain Luke Payten the player's cup for the match.
The next Mudchook pre-season games are to be played at Duntroon on Saturday 17th April with a 12 noon kick-off and the first competition game for the season is against Harden at Bungendore on 8th May. Don't forget that also on the 8th May the Mudchooks are hosting Wallabies coach Robbie Deans for brunch at the Bungendore Showground. Tickets are on sale at Bungendore Cellars, so please get your tickets and join the Mudchooks for a meal, hear from Robbie Deans and support the Mudchooks at the start of the 2010 season.
