Mudchooks Continue Their Unbeaten Run
[ Saturday, 3 July 2010 ]

With the 2010 season now half way through, the top placed Bungendore Mudchooks faced the Yass Rams (who are second from the bottom) for the first time ever at Yass on Saturday 3 July. Despite the match sometimes being scrappy with the Mudchooks dropping a considerable amount of ball through risky passes, they nevertheless continued their unbeaten season with a 32-7 win over Yass.

The Mudchooks scrum was again dominant setting a strong foundation for the backs to attack, so when one of the Yass props had to leave the field injured and, with Yass having no reserve props, it was a shame to see nearly half the game played with uncontested scrums.

Yass Rams played with spirit, were vigorous at the breakdown all match and for the first ten minutes of the second half, they played with great confidence and their half back scored a clever individual try from a quick penalty tap kick near the line. However, the Mudchooks never looked like being beaten scoring six tries to the Rams single try while both sides only kicked one conversion each.

The Mudchooks shared the tries around amongst themselves with a try each to Hayward Fraser, Luke Payten, Adam Gowen, Dave McDonald and James Pryde (Butters) while Brett Watson kicked the single conversion.

Butters was the star of the day, playing the best game of his life in both attack and defence and winning the Botham Fencing Coach's Award, the Chick's Pick and the Tymlock 3 points for Player's Player. Luke Payten and Brett Watson each received Bungendore Rural Services two points for their usual classy attacking games. The Royal Hotel one point was shared by the two second rowers Jason Brodrick and Gerard Kearns who both played strong tight-forward games.

The Mudchooks are playing their next match away against Jindabyne on 10 July.
