Mudchooks Defeat Army
[ Saturday, 31 July 2010 ]

In a tough and aggressive battle, the Mudchooks defeated the Royal Military College (RMC) cadets 22 - 13 at Bungendore on Saturday. RMC started strongly and had the Mudchooks pinned down in their half for the first 20 minutes during which time the Bungendore defence held firm and kept the cadets scoreless until RMC kicked a penalty goal. Then Bungendore suddenly counter attacked with a try to veteran John Turner followed immediately with a try to Jason Brodrick which was converted. However, a string of penalties against Bungendore let RMC back into the game and they kicked another penalty goal just before half time to leave the score 12-6 at the break.

The second half started well for Bungendore with good attacking moves finally rewarded with a try to Brett Watson after only seven minutes of play. Now it was RMC's turn to counter attack and they quickly scored a try which was converted. For the rest of the half the Mudchooks attacked the RMC line time and again looking likely to score at any moment, but it wasn't until two minutes before half time that "Dancing" Dave McDonald raced over to score a try for the Mudchooks and secure a bonus competition point for the team.

Tymlock 3 points and Players' Player award : Brett Watson. Bungendore Rural Services 2 points was shared by Jason Brodrick and Dave McDonald. Royal Hotel 1 point : Rodney Clarke. Botham Fencing Coach's award and Chicks Pick: Dave McDonald.

The Mudchooks' last home game for the competition before the finals will be on Saturday 7 August against Crookwell with a 2:30 kick-off.
