Chooks Teach Dogs New Tricks
[ Saturday, 7 August 2010 ]

The Crookwell Dogs travelled to Bungendore last Saturday determined to teach the Mudchooks a lesson and score an upset win against the undefeated home side. However, this was not to be, and the Mudchooks continued their excellent form with a 28-12 victory and earned a bonus competition point.

The game was a tough one with both sides constantly pressuring their opponents, but the Mudchooks were convincing winners scoring four converted tries to the Dogs two tries and one conversion. The four tries to Bungendore ensured they earned the bonus point and this win, together with the birth of captain Woody Fraser's first child on Thursday night, gave all club members and supporters plenty to celebrate.

Woody again lead by example, scoring two tries in the first half with powerful charging runs from close to the line. Veteran lock John Turner scored his fifth try for the season and Peter Sturgiss sealed the victory with a try midway through the second half. Both these players made huge contributions to the win with their high work rates and solid defence. Aaron Williams kicked three conversions and Jeremy Taylor kicked one conversion.

Tymlock 3 points and Player's Player went to John Turner; Bungendore Rural Services 2 points - Brett Watson; Royal Hotel 1 point - Andrew Turner; Botham Fencing Coach's award Eddie Mitford-Burgess; Chicks Pick was shared by Sandy Beggs and Dave McDonald.

The final competition game for the season will be a night game against Tuggeranong at Vikings field on Friday 13th kicking off at 7pm.
