Mudchooks Win Their First Home Game This Season
[ Saturday, 7 May 2011 ]
The Mudchooks won their first home game this season on 7 May against a much improved Yass team. The final score of Bungendore 20, Yass 16 is a good indicator of how close the game was with both teams looking set to claim the match right up until the last minute when the Mudchooks scored their 4th try to seal the result and earn a welcome bonus point.
The Yass team was very competitive and really made the Mudchooks work hard throughout the game. Again, a high penalty count against the Mudchooks allowed the opposition too many scoring opportunities and stifled the Mudchooks momentum, but despite this, the Mudchooks began to show some of the attacking flair we have grown to love over the past six years scoring four tries to Yass’ two.
The Mudchooks’ scrum dominated and their work at the breakdown was much better this week than against Crookwell. The Mudchooks backs attacked with passion and determination, but some basic handling errors cost at least another two tries, however this problem should be cured as the season progresses and the new backline settles down.
The Bungendore social committee hosted the sponsors to food and drinks during the game and it was wonderful to be able to entertain so many of our generous sponsors at an exciting home game.
The best and fairest points awarded were Tymlock 3 points: Ben Schouten; Bungendore Rural Service 2 points Sandy Beggs; Royal Hotel 1 point Woody Fraser. Ben Schouten was the Chick’s Pick and Woody Fraser gained the Coach’s award.
