Win Against Jindabyne
[ Saturday, 14 May 2011 ]

Despite taking a depleted team to Jindabyne, which forced captain Woody Fraser to move from tight head prop to number eight, the Bungendore Mudchooks won a tough match against the Jindabyne Bushpigs last weekend.

Running with the wind at their backs in the first half, the Mudchooks started well, but were unable to score until the 34th minute when Aaron Williams scored a try following some good lead up work from the tight forwards. Unfortunately, he was unable to convert and the score was 5 - nil at half time.

Jindabyne had the advantage of running with the strong wind in the second half, and scored their only try after eight minutes. An excellent kicking game from Luke Payten relieved much of the pressure caused by the wind advantage enjoyed by the Bushpigs, and excellent defence by the Mudchooks kept the Bushpigs from scoring another try despite them dominating the Mudchooks’ territory.

Finally, with four minutes remaining in the match, Luke Payten showed his brilliance yet again scoring the winning try, which was converted by Aaron Williams leaving the Mudchooks winners by 12-5.

It was great to see Eddie Mitford-Burgess’ return to top form and as a result he won both the Tymlock best and fairest three points, and the Botham Fencing Coach’s award. Luke Payten was awarded Bungendore Rural Services two points and Rodney Clarke received the Royal Hotel one point. The Chicks’ Pick award went to Aaron Williams.

The next Mudchooks home game is on 21 May against the Mudchooks Legends, an invitation team of past Bungendore players.
