Mudchooks v Legends
[ Saturday, 21 May 2011 ]

Mudchooks players from past seasons travelled from as far away as Darwin, Mackay, Brisbane and Geelong to play a friendly game against the current Mudchooks on 21 May at Bungendore. The game was organised to take the place of a cancelled competition match and aimed to provide a contested run for the Mudchooks and a chance for a reunion of past and present players.

It proved to be a tough match during which the current Mudchooks team could take nothing for granted and needed to play to the best of their ability to get on top of the “Mudchook Legends” team. The game was played in 20 minute sessions and during the first session the Legends continually drove into the Mudchooks defence forcing the home team onto the back foot. However, the current Mudchooks defence held strong and their superior fitness eventually proved the deciding factor with the team scoring three tries to nil for a 17 – 0 victory. But winning or losing was not the point of this game, it was more about providing an opportunity for mates to get together, enjoy a tough physical contest and then kick up their heels for a great social evening after the match.

Tymlock three points and Botham Fencing Coach’s Award went to Luke Payten; Bungendore Rural Services two points went to Jason Broderick, Royal Hotel one point went to Ben Schouten; and the Chick’s Pick went to Will Turner in his debut Mudchooks match. The next Mudchooks match is the 2010 grand final replay against Boorowa at Bungendore on 28 May.
