Big Win Against Boorowa
[ Saturday, 28 May 2011 ]
The Mudchooks finally hit their stride last Saturday to convincingly win against Boorowa. This was the first game this season between the two 2010 grand final teams and, in front of a home crowd, the Mudchooks scored eight tries to one to win 50 – 5.
During the first 10 minutes of the match the Mudchooks looked tentative in their attack and it wasn’t until Boorowa scored a try, that the Mudchooks snapped out of it and started to play with the drive and assurance they displayed last season. Thereafter the Mudchooks dominated every facet of the game. Both teams came to the match with a limited number of reserves, and this was a big weakness for the visitors when midway through the first half one of the Boorowa front rowers came off injured, couldn’t be replaced and the rest of the match was played with uncontested scrums.
The Bungendore tight forwards ran riot, scoring three tries between them, taking turns in charging runs and controlling play with a series of rolling mauls. The resulting ball delivered to the backline was excellent quality and the Mudchooks backs made good use of this scoring five tries.
Winger Aaron Williams was outstanding for the Mudchooks’ playing his best game ever for the club, scoring three tries, kicking five conversions and winning the Tymlock three points for best and fairest, the Botham Fencing Coach’s award and the Chicks’ Pick. Bungendore Rural Services two points went to both Haywood Fraser and Ben Schouten. Royal Hotel one point went to both Sandy Beggs and Luke Payten.
