Mudchooks Lose Against Yass
[ Saturday, 2 July 2011 ]
The Bungendore Mudchooks lost their second game this season in a close fought match at Yass. The game had competition leaders Bungendore playing second placed Yass Rams and it was a struggle that showed just how close the top teams are in the Monaro Second Division competition. The Rams played with more vigour and kept constant pressure on the Mudchooks throughout the first half and scored the only points with a penalty goal.
In the second half Yass scored a try in the first minute and then the game opened up with both teams running the ball wide and pressuring each others’ line. Ben Schouten scored a try for the Mudchooks, quickly followed by another try from Dave McDonald, and with both tries converted the Mudchooks looked set to win midway through the second half. But then Yass came back and scored a try which was not converted and the score was 14-13 to Bungendore. The Mudchooks then chose not to take a penalty shot within kicking range, and with five minutes remaining, Yass came storming back, kicking down field, forcing the Mudchooks to make an error and finally kicking a penalty goal two minutes into injury time to win 16-14.
Tymlock three points went to Woody Fraser who led from the front throughout the game. Bungendore Rural Services two points went to Sandy Beggs and Royal Hotel one point to Ben Rabjohns. Dave McDonald received the Botham Fencing coach’s award and Ben Schouten was the chicks’ pick.
The next Mudchooks game is at home against Jindabyne on 9th July.
