Second Last Minute Loss In A Row To Jindabyne
[ Saturday, 9 July 2011 ]
For the second week in a row a last minute, match winning, converted try broke the Mudchooks’ hearts when they lost 21-20 against the Jindabyne Bushpigs in Bungendore.
In cold and blustery conditions, neither team really made the best use of the strong north westerly wind, choosing to run the ball more often than kick it deep into the opposition territory when the wind was at their backs. As a result there was a lot of dropped ball by both teams and plenty of hard fought scrums. There was little to separate the two teams for the whole match, but the Mudchooks gave away too many penalties and missed too many tackles to enable them to get on top of the opposition for any length of time.
Both teams scored three tries, with Jason Brodrick, Sandy Beggs and Luke Payten scoring for the Mudchooks and Aaron Williams kicking one conversion and a penalty goal. The winning try for Jindabyne was a classy effort from the Jindabyne backs who ran the length of the field after receiving the ball from a missed Mudchook penalty kick to score underneath the posts in the last minute of the second half.
A highlight of the game was the return of veteran Mudchook John Turner who had the pleasure of playing the match with his eldest son Will. Tymlock three points and Chicks’ Pick went to Sandy Beggs; Bungendore Rural Supplies two points and the Botham Fencing Coach’s Award went to Morne Ferreira and the Royal Hotel one point went to Jason Brodrick.
