Welcome Bonus Point Win Against Taralga
[ Saturday, 6 August 2011 ]

The Mudchooks regained their winning form with a welcome bonus point win against Taralga. After a run of three losses it was great to see the Mudchooks players finally demonstrate the potential they have been promising all season with a good 24-7 win at home.

Despite the wet and slippery conditions the Mudchooks backs played with flair and confidence to score four tries and secure a bonus point win. The forwards also played better for longer than they have in any previous game this season with their vigour at the breakdown a vast improvement on recent form.

But it was the backs who really stepped up to the plate in this game. The conditions should have meant a tight game played in the forwards, with short passes, plenty of pick and drives and the backs outside the number 10 not being much involved. However, the backs ignored convention and spun the ball wide at every opportunity, cutting through the Taralga defence and playing a game more suited to a dry pitch and clear skies and this week the passes were accurate and the catches stuck.

Unfortunately, the game was marred with hard running centre Pete Sturgiss dislocating his elbow and John Turner badly injuring his knee. Neither player is likely to be eligible for the semi finals on 20 August.

Tymlock three points and the Chicks’ pick went to Morne Ferreira; Bungendore Rural Services two points was shared by Woody Fraser, Sand Beggs and Dave McDonald; Royal Hotel one point Jason Brodrick; Botham Fencing Coach’s award went to Sandy Beggs.
