Luke Payten Top Monaro Representative
[ Saturday, 27 August 2011 ]
The Mudchooks continued their successful 2011 season with star fly-half Luke Payten being awarded the Bill Priest Trophy for the best Monaro representative player of the year at the annual ACT Rugby Union awards night held last Friday.
Luke was one of five Mudchooks in the 2011 Monaro representative team that was selected from all first division and second division clubs and which played against the Southern Inland Rams and the South Coast Marlins on the June long weekend. Luke and Mudchooks captain Haywood Fraser were then both selected in the Brumbies Provincial representative team that played the Australian Police National Representative Team at Campbelltown on 18th June.
Also at the ACTRU awards night, Haywood Fraser accepted the minor premier’s trophy on behalf of the Bungendore club and was named runner-up in the Monaro second division best and fairest player award as voted by the referees of second division games.
Last Saturday Crookwell beat Jindabyne 21-17 in a tough final match at Jindabyne. This means that the Mudchooks will be playing Crookwell in the 2011 grand final on Saturday 3 September at Bungendore. This will be the sixth grand final the Mudchooks have played in seven years and this year they are defending their 2010 premiership title. The Crookwell team will be tough opponents and the game will no doubt be hard fought, so we need as many supporters as possible to come to the game and get behind our Bungendore boys. Kickoff is at 2:30pm and the after game celebrations will be held at the Royal Hotel.
