Mudchooks Beat Boorowa
[ Saturday, 19 May 2012 ]

The Mudchooks enjoyed their first success of the 2012 season with a 36-17 win against Boorowa at home on 19 May.

After struggling to find cohesion all season, the Mudchooks finally began to work as a team and scored six tries to Boorowa’s three tries. The Mudchooks started the game strongly scoring a try in the first four minutes and then another three tries in that half to be leading 24-5 at half time. The Mudchooks then weathered a ferocious comeback by the Boorowa team during the first 30 minutes of the second half when Boorowa scored two tries. But, then the Mudchooks rallied and scored two tries to earn a well deserved bonus point.

The leadership shown by the vastly experienced forwards Peteli Sio Langi and John Turner was a great help to the inexperienced members of the team who are all showing improvement in their technique each week. The forwards showed much greater strength and commitment at the breakdown and the back’s passing and backing up also showed a big improvement.

The win was celebrated by the club that night at the annual Fur and Feathers dinner dance where $5 from every ticket sale was donated to the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal.

Tymlock Fencing 3 points – Rodney Clarke-; Bungendore Rural Services 2 points – Jason Brodrick; Royal Hotel 1 point – John Turner and Scott Bakos; Bungendore Community Bank coach’s award – Sandy Beggs; Chicks Pick – Jason Brodrick.

The Mudchooks’ next game is the second round local derby against Braidwood at Braidwood on 26 May, with a 2:30pm kick off.
